As we wrap up April as the Month of the Military Child, we are proud to highlight Rose Hill senior Ava Markley, whose story perfectly reflects the strength and resilience of military-connected students. Growing up with a parent serving in the Air Force, Ava shares how her experiences have shaped her into the driven, service-minded individual she is today. 🇺🇸

💜 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐩 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐭! 💜 Yesterday was Purple Up Day, a time to recognize and celebrate our military-connected students and families. While we didn’t capture as many photos as we would've liked (we were busy celebrating!), we wanted to share one from our awesome Middle School Specials teachers rockin' their custom purple shirts, thanks to business teacher, Mr. Tucker! This year marked our first as a 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁, and while we're proud of that recognition, this journey was never about the title, it was always about action. With nearly 8% of our students military-connected (a percentage even higher than that of Wichita!), we’re committed to showing up for these students and families every day. 💬 A quote shared from Senior, Leila, military-connected child and future Airman: “𝘈𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦… 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥. 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘶𝘵𝘺, 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺.” Students like Leila, and the many staff and families connected to military service, are the heart of our Purple Star commitment. 💜 We’re already planning for next April to be even bigger with more purple, more pride, and even more intentional ways to support every military-connected member of our Rocket family. 🚀🇺🇸

Thanks to funding from the Safe & Secure Schools GRANT, Automated External Defibrillator (AED units) are now fully installed in every district building, including our stadium, Central Office, Transportation, and the Parents as Teachers building. These Phillips FRX units come equipped with child keys and are accessible to anyone using our facilities. Our amazing school nurses have already begun training staff on how to use them and additional training will be available as needed. We’re proud to take this important step in protecting our students, staff, and community - because being prepared saves lives.
