The October SEL Newsletters have been out -- but we failed to get them posted. But our kids have been busy focusing on it all month. The focus this month is: SEᒪᖴ-ᑕOᑎTᖇOᒪ 𝙎𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣; 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙡𝙨. Here are some ways that our PreK-12th grade students have and can continue to practice self-control: 1. Pause Before Acting: Take a moment to think before reacting to a situation. 2. Set Goals: Encourage students to set small, achievable goals and work toward them gradually. 3. Mindfulness Practices: Introduce techniques like deep breathing or meditation to help manage emotions. 4. Positive Self-Talk: Remind students to use encouraging words with themselves, especially during challenging times. 5. Limit Distractions: Create a focused environment when studying or working on tasks to help maintain concentration. Let’s continue to work together to build our self-control skills this month!

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰? Our early childhood programs are thriving, but we've run out of space to support our growing numbers. Expanding classroom areas will allow us to accommodate more students, especially those on the waitlist for our 4-year-old classes. Right now, these classes are FULL, with an average of 15 students per teacher. This is 5 students more than what ChildCare.gov recommends as the ideal radio. Expanding will also ensure that our 3-year-old program continues to serve those in need of early interventions. Research shows that smaller class sizes and lower student-to-teacher ratios are critical for early childhood education. When teachers can give more individualized attention to students, particularly at these crucial developmental stages, it leads to significant improvements in: • Cognitive and language development • Social-emotional skills • Academic readiness for Kindergarten In fact, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER), smaller class sizes in early education help children develop essential skills more effectively, fostering a strong foundation for future learning. By adding more space, we can reduce overcrowding, improve teacher-to-student ratios, and provide a more effective learning environment for both 3- and 4-year-olds. Additionally, our early childhood programs not only benefit young learners but also positively impact the wider community. While originally designed to serve high school performances and events, today the auditorium is a hub for the entire Rose Hill community. Nearly all the schools in the district utilize this space for concerts, assemblies, and drama productions, while the community uses it for meetings, local performances, and more. This bond will modernize the auditorium by replacing the outdated and torn curtains, lighting, seating, and sound systems. These upgrades will enhance the quality of performances and events, improve accessibility and comfort for audience members, and create a more inviting space for all. The RHHS KAY Club would like us all to come together to spread awareness and show our support by wearing purple on Wednesday, October 23 district-wide. 💜 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙩 𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙚? Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects nearly every aspect of life—especially speech, hand use, and coordination. It’s caused by a gene mutation and is most often recognized in infancy. No two individuals with Rett are alike, and while it primarily affects girls, more boys are now being diagnosed. It is estimated that their are approximately 6,000-9,000 people in the United States living with Rett. 🚧 𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐃 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄 🚧 Heads up, Rose Hill! We were informed today by the railroad representatives that 𝐄. 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐤𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 will be closed again for additional work on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10. Please plan your routes accordingly. We’ll continue to keep you updated!

BNSF has temporarily reopened the railroad crossing at 190th/79th. Later this month, the crossing will close again for final construction work at that crossing. We will notify you as soon as BNSF provides us with the closure date and they hope to have signs posted accordingly. Once closed, the crossing will remain closed until early November for the completion of the project. Thank you for your understanding and patience as this work continues. Stay tuned for updates!

**Community Post** CLOTHES CLOSET OPEN HOUSE The next Clothes Closet Open House will be held tomorrow, October 5th, from 9:30 AM to Noon in the small white building at the south end of the Rose Hill Christian Church parking lot. This offering of free clothing is open to individuals in financial need within the Rose Hill, Douglass, and Udall school district areas. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bags (trash bags work well), and they kindly ask that anyone feeling unwell refrain from attending. The Clothes Closet provides clothing for infants through adults. Items include seasonal essentials such as coats, hats, gloves, scarves, hoodies, sweats, and boots, as well as year-round necessities like jeans, pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, sweaters, cardigans, pajamas, bathrobes, tank tops, children’s and men’s underwear, socks, and a wide selection of shoes and boots.
