Her 'Particular Topics in Biology' class kicked off the year diving into plant science and agricultural technology! Students built a hydroponic system and grew fresh herbs for the culinary classes to use. They also learned about food sustainability and agricultural technology by collaborating with Mrs. Evans’s culinary students and even visiting with a professional chef to discuss food miles, the supply chain, and waste reduction in the restaurant industry. 🍃👩‍🍳
The class is now moving into a new unit on animal behavior and cognitive abilities, where they’re building a Rodent-Operated Vehicle (ROV) 🐭🚗 — yes, really! This hands-on project combines biology, engineering, and research literacy as students learn mechanical, electrical, and software engineering basics. Big thanks to robotics team members Elijah Bair and Ryan Leonard for lending their expertise, and to Mr. Hill for sharing his tools and workspace!

Meanwhile, Zoology students took a trip to Emporia State University, where they learned about fish anatomy from Dr. Martin, Professor of Aquatic Ecology and Biology Education. Back in class, they put their knowledge to the test by dissecting spiny dogfish sharks, exploring the fascinating differences between cartilaginous and bony fish. 🦈

And the new HOSA – Future Health Professionals club recently attended the Healthcare Workforce Development Day in Salina! Students took part in professional roundtables, practiced wound packing, and joined in discussions about leadership in healthcare. All 18 members are now preparing to attend the Fall Leadership Conference at K-State later this month. 💉🏥💜

📸 Check out the photos below to see our students’ amazing hands-on learning in action!

✈️ Taking Flight with Entrepreneurship!
Mr. Treat’s Entrepreneurship students put their skills to the test by building airplanes during a productivity calculation exercise.

While the activity was hands-on and fun, the real lesson connects to the bigger picture—learning what it takes to run a successful business. From economics and marketing to finance, law, and communication, this class gives students the knowledge and skills to launch their own ideas and make them soar. 🚀
