Title VI Indian Education Grant HEADER

Our district is currently working toward qualifying for a Title VI grant, a federal funding opportunity designed to support the academic and cultural needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students. If awarded, this grant could bring meaningful resources and unique educational opportunities to our schools.

To be eligible, the district must receive completed eligibility forms for at least 10 qualifying students.

Who May Qualify?

Some families may have already received a notification earlier this week. At that time, the form was sent only to students marked as Native American. We have since received clarification that students may still qualify even if they are not registered as Native American, as long as a parent or grandparent has a tribal card.

A student may qualify if:

  • A parent or grandparent is a member of an Indian tribe or band, as defined by the tribe or band (including tribes or bands terminated since 1940 or recognized by the state in which they reside), or

  • A parent or grandparent is a descendant who meets the qualifications above

Because of this expanded eligibility, we are now sharing this information with all families in the district.

Why This Matters

If the district qualifies for the Title VI grant, funds may be used to support programs and services such as:

  • American Indian/Alaska Native language programs and language restoration

  • Culturally related and enrichment activities

  • Early childhood and family programs that emphasize school readiness

  • Academic enrichment, career preparation, mentoring, and apprenticeship opportunities

  • Graduation retention and dropout prevention strategies

  • Family literacy services and culturally responsive teaching practices

  • Programs that address the unique educational needs of American Indian/Alaska Native students

These funds could provide valuable opportunities for students and families while strengthening educational programming across the district.

How to Submit the Form

Families who believe they may qualify are encouraged to complete the eligibility form and return it using any of the following methods:
