Resource for Families during Shutdown

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has shared updated information regarding food and family support resources available across the state.

Due to recent federal direction from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the processing of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is temporarily on hold as of November 1. While applications will continue to be accepted, benefits cannot be issued until federal partners provide further guidance.

We understand this situation may place additional stress on families within our community. To help ensure Kansans have access to available support, DCF has provided a list of community resources that offer food assistance and other family support services.

The Food Resource Directory highlights several important contacts, including:

  • Kansas Food Source – Find local food pantries and resources by county at kansasfoodsource.org

  • 211 Information and Referral – Dial 211 or text your zip code to 898-211 for free, confidential help connecting to local services

  • 1-800-CHILDREN – A 24/7 resource connecting families to community supports at 1800childrenks.org

  • Community Mental Health Centers – Locate services at acmhck.org/resources/cmhc-map

  • 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline – Call or text 988 for immediate mental health support

DCF and local partners remain committed to supporting Kansas families and will begin issuing benefits as soon as federal approval is received.
