'21-22 COVID Information Update
COVID Information Update*
Close Contacts - CDC has modified this just a little bit. A close contact is identified as being within 6ft of a positive COVID case for more than 10 consecutive minutes.
Quarantine - A 10 day quarantine is still a requirement for close contacts. Close contacts may remain in school if:
- They have been vaccinated, or
- They have had the COVID virus in the past 6 months, or
- They and the positive COVID case were both wearing 2 ply cloth masks over their nose and mouth, or
- They receive a negative result from an antigen test each school day of the quarantine period and wear a mask, or
- They receive a negative result from a PCR test given after day 5 of their quarantine period (they may then return on day 8 of the quarantine period).
For USD 394 Staff Members: There is no COVID leave and quarantined staff will need to use their leave to be paid. (please also see the staff note under the Testing info).
Testing - KDHE has offered another option for close contacts to remain in school through daily testing. So, we are going to implement that process this year. We will conduct an antigen test (nasal swab, not brain tickler) in our nurses' stations in each building for identified close contacts. If close contacts do not show symptoms and have a negative antigen test, they may remain at school. This would be the same for staff members.
Isolation - Positive COVID cases will have to be isolated for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or positive test date, regardless of vaccination status. There is no COVID leave and isolated staff will need to use their leave to be paid.
Masks - We will be mask optional on our campuses. CDC and KDHE highly recommend that everyone wear a mask indoors. A Federal Order will mandate the use of masks in any school vehicle (bus, van, car) where the driver is not the only person in the vehicle.
Spacing - Maintaining good spacing is still one of the best ways to mitigate the COVID virus and not have to quarantine. Six feet is the key number.
Cleaning - We will maintain our cleaning regiment.
Hygiene - We will continue to encourage good hand washing and provide hand sanitizer. We will also continue to encourage sneezing and coughing into the fold of your arm.
