Orion Placement Request
STAR PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:
Rose Hill High School has limited seats in the STAR Program. Students in this program are responsible to attend in person each day that Orion is in session at Orion’s Rose Hill location. Classes are assigned and completed through Odysseyware with support from an assigned teacher.
LOCATION:
Orion Rose Hill is located at 301 E. School St. in Rose Hill, KS. There is a dedicated entrance on the back of Rose Hill Middle School.
WHO CAN ATTEND:
STAR spots are intended for students who are nearing graduation by age, but are not on pace to graduate. Placement is determined by the Rose Hill High School administration/counseling team and will be prioritized according to grade and credit status. Spots in the STAR program are not guaranteed from year to year and re-application is required. Since spots are limited, students who are placed in the STAR program are expected to have good attendance and be motivated to work on their designated plan.
HOW MUCH CREDIT CAN BE EARNED:
Orion does not operate on semesters like RHHS. A student at RHHS is enrolled in seven classes and receives final grades at the completion of each semester. A student at Orion is enrolled in two classes and receives final grades at every credit due date (approximately once a month). There are four credit due dates per semester. A student who is in good standing in the STAR Program will complete eight classes in a semester compared to seven for students who attend RHHS. In the event that a student needs to earn many credits to catch up, they are able to sign up for more than two classes per credit due date, if they show they are motivated and willing to do the required work.
ENROLLMENT PROCESS:
Placement in the STAR program is decided by RHHS administrators, counselors, and Orion staff. Students interested in a STAR spot should fill out the GOOGLE FORM and they will be notified by RHHS if they are able to enroll, be waitlisted, or denied. Students placed at Orion will have a referral sent to Orion by the RHHS counselors. Orion will then contact parents to finish the enrollment process and attend an orientation to communicate program expectations, Odysseyware training, and other policies and procedures. RHHS counselors and Orion staff complete a transcript analysis and create a graduation plan to determine the courses that a student should be assigned.
VIP PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:
Each year the number of seats that Rose Hill High School sponsors in the VIP program varies due to available funding. Students who attend the VIP Program complete coursework through Odysseyware. The VIP Program is a virtual program completed at home and student attendance is marked through logging in and completing assignments. Students have access to a teacher who monitors their progress and is available to answer questions. Students also can schedule time in the VIP lab for in-person assistance.
LOCATION:
VIP students work at home and do not attend in person at Orion Rose Hill. The VIP lab is located at Orion Rose Hill which is at 301 E. School St. in Rose Hill, KS. There is a dedicated entrance on the back of Rose Hill Middle School.
WHO CAN ATTEND:
A virtual schooling option is helpful for students who struggle in the classroom setting. This may be due to health concerns, classroom behaviors, or social concerns. Students who are behind on credits may also attend the VIP Program if they are able to self-motivate and complete the work in an online setting. Placement must be approved by the Rose Hill High School administration/counseling team. Spots in the VIP Program are not guaranteed from year to year and re-application is required.
