Honoring Heroes: Supporting Passageways and Homeless Veterans

It's a time when we come together as a community to recognize their sacrifices and extend a helping hand to those who may be in need. One organization that embodies the spirit of service and support is Passageways, a local non-profit agency dedicated to providing housing, support, and hope to homeless military veterans in Wichita, Kansas.
Background on Passageways: Passageways was founded in 2014 by Jennifer and Susan with a vision to impact the lives of homeless heroes living on the streets of Wichita. At that time, there were limited services available for homeless veterans in our community, so they took it upon themselves to bridge this gap. From a mere idea, Passageways transformed into a reality within a few months.
Their mission is clear: to find homes for homeless veterans and help them rebuild their lives. Passageways focuses on holistic healing, addressing not only the physical needs of veterans but also their mental, spiritual, and economic well-being. They believe that past mistakes should not define future opportunities.
The Outreach Center: In addition to providing housing, Passageways has developed an Outreach Center at Towne West Square, where both residents of their Living Center and heroes in the community can access essential items they need to survive and make their houses feel like homes. Thanks to community donations, the Outreach Center offers used furniture, household products, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and more – all free of charge to our heroes.
How You Can Make a Difference: This November, we invite you to join us in supporting Passageways and our local heroes. There are several ways you can get involved:
- Monetary Donations: Visit the Passageways website and make a (tax deductible) monetary donation to help fund their programs and services or send a check made payable to: Passageways to school with your student.
- Donation Drive: Gather essential items from their Helpful Items list on their website and drop them off one of the schools or at Central Office.
- Share the Message: Spread the word about Passageways and the fundraiser on your social media platforms. Let your friends and family know how they can make a difference.
This Veterans Day and throughout Military Family Appreciation Month, let's come together as a community to show our support for homeless veterans and help them on their journey to a brighter future. Together, we can make a significant impact and truly honor our heroes.
