School Board Asks Patrons to Vote
On January 12th, the USD 394 Board of Education passed a resolution calling for a vote of the USD 394 Rose Hill School District patrons that would allow for additional spending authority in the District’s Supplemental General Fund – Local Option Budget (LOB). This additional authority would come at no mil levy increase. It would, however, allow the District to capture additional State Aid for the mils that are currently being levied. This additional State Aid would equate to about $190,000, making the total spending authority increase to the LOB about $280,000. With the budget concerns we are facing, this additional funding will be used to maintain current offerings and services.
Again, this proposal would not increase taxes, but would allow the District to maximize the State Aid available to the District. State Aid is provided to School Districts whose valuations are low. Rose Hill School District receives 68% in State Aid for its LOB. So for every local dollar raised, the State gives us $.68. This proposal would allow the District to raise the limit on the LOB account and capture the State’s funding for the local dollars that are already in our budget.
The official vote date is March 24th. This will be a mail in ballot, so please be looking for the ballot prior to and make sure you return the ballot by the March 24th deadline.
