I taught second grade in Syracuse, KS for 5 1/2 years. I was a K-5 counselor in Dodge City, KS for 12 years. This is the start of my eighth year as Rose Hill K-4 counselor. I  became a teacher to help students learn to read, write and do math. I enjoy working with students. I noticed as I taught there were other important issues for children to learn how to cope with in life. So I went back to college and took classes to be a counselor. I think students need to have tools in the tool boxes to cope with everyday life issues. I teach students about making good choices, study skills, friendship skills, social skills, safety skills, etc. I enjoy going to the classrooms and seeing all the students. I also know sometimes kids just need someone to listen to them so I encourage them to let me know bout the happy times (good  grades, birthday, "A" on spelling) but they also know I will be there for them in sad or down times. Life is like a pickle- sometimes it's sweet, sometimes sour, sometimes it is  just in between.

A counselor is always your friend.

I have added a special friend to work with children. Many of you have met Lucky Charm, my little white fur ball! He is a certified therapy dog. He is very helpful in classroom and individual counseling sessions. He uses his manners and demonstrates how to follow rules, listen, and try. Lucky is non judgmental and loves everyone unconditionally. Lucky Charm is a valuable asset to my counseling program.
