Introduction to Modern Technology
Prerequisite: none
Grade 9 - 11

Introduction to Modern Technology (IMT) is a course designed to introduce freshmen and sophomores to the technology programs offered at RHHS. These programs include Digital Video Drafting, Graphic Arts, Publishing and Woodworking. A strong emphasis is placed on career opportunities in these industries.

Woodworking I
Prerequisite: Intro to Modern Technology
Grade: 10-12
1 credit

The Woodworking I student will build a series of projects in order to learn basic skills related to woodworking. This includes wood identification, machining, sawing and drilling, assembly and finishing techniques. Students will be responsible for the cost of any materials used.

Woodworking II
Prerequisite:Â Woodworking I
Grade: 11- 12
1 credit

The Woodworking II student will design and build a major project. Students will expand on skills learned in Woodworking I and are expected to demonstrate high quality work in their projects. The student will be responsible for the cost of any materials used.

Custom Guitar Production
Prerequisite: Woodworking I
Grade: 11-12
1 credit

This course introduces students to the techniques, materials, and processes related to building guitars and other similar musical instruments. These processes will include graphic design techniques, wood properties, measuring and layout, shaping and carving and finishing methods. Students will be responsible for the cost of any materials used.

Drafting I
Prerequisite: Intro to Modern Tech

The Drafting I student will learn the fundamentals of creating technical drawings through the use of CAD (computer aided drafting) software. This course would benefit any student considering a career in design, architecture, engineering, manufacturing or construction.

Engineering Drafting
Prerequisite: Drafting I
Grade 10 - 12

The student interested in a career in engineering or manufacturing would benefit from this course. In Engineering Drafting students will learn to design and analyze mechanical objects using 3D modeling software. Students will complete a major design project as part of this course.

Architectural Drafting
Prerequisite: Drafting I
Grade 10-12

Architectural Drafting is for the student who is interested in a career in architecture, interior design or construction. The Architectural Drafting student will learn fundamentals of architectural design and drawing. Students will learn to create a basic set of architectural plans, including floor plans, elevations, sections and detail drawings. A major design project will be required. Past examples include a branch bank, a single family home and a dentist's office

Advanced Drafting
Prerequisite: Engineering or Architectural Drawing with a "C" or better
Grade 11 - 12
1 credit

This course allows students to do advanced CAD work in the area of Engineering or Architectural drafting. The student will be able to work primarily in areas of individual interest. The student and instructor will work together to choose an individualized project. The student will then spend the remainder of the year developing the design according to specifications outlined by the project. At the completion of this course, the student should have developed a complete set of working drawings for the chosen project.

Video Production
Prerequisite: Intro to Modern Tech & Instructor approval
Grade 10

The Video Production course will have the student experience the process of video production with particular attention paid to video communication, hardware and production techniques, the process of pre-production, major aspects of videography, lighting, audio, the art of directing and the process of postproduction. Students will utilize iMovie on laptops, Final Cut Pro editing software and DVD Studio Pro software.

Advanced Video Production
Prerequisite: Video Production & Instructor approval
Grade 11

Advanced Video Production will build upon the skills and knowledge the students gained in Video Production. Additional experience will be gained in pre-production, production and postproduction as the student becomes responsible for more of the planning and division of labor as groups work together on productions for the class. Productions will take place in the studio and in the stadium, gymnasium, ball diamonds, track and field venues and golf course as students produce a weekly news and sports show for delayed broadcast of home sporting events. These productions will include play-by-play and color commentary made available to the public on the school's web site.

Video Production Projects
Prerequisite: Advanced Video Production & Instructor approval
Grade 12
1 credit

The Projects students will be responsible for the organization and assignments of the planned broadcast productions news and sports shows, varsity athletic events for delayed broadcast, and the twenty-four hour Power Point scroll of announcements and calendar for the Rose Hill district.

Newspaper
Prerequisite: Intro to Modern Tech & Instructor approval
Grade 10

The Newspaper course will introduce students to newspaper production as they contribute assignments for publication in the RHHS school newspaper, which is included in a local publication, sent into the homes of each address in Rose Hill. It is therefore available to the public at large and not solely the school population. Students will learn about the fundamentals of news gathering, news writing, objectivity vs opinion, writing that is factual and accurate, page design, news and sports photography, headline writing and cutline writing.

Advanced Newspaper
Prerequisite: Newspaper & Instructor approval
Grade 11

The Advanced Newspaper course will build on the skills and knowledge the students learned in Newspaper. The students will edit beginning students' writings,, model basic photography skills, have input into beginning student assignments, learn page design utilizing Adobe In Design and learn photo preparation for publication utilizing Adobe Photo Shop. Advanced students will learn how to approach, sell, design and display advertising in the school publication. Second year students will also gain experience in writing feature stories, editorials, and opinion columns for the publication.

Newspaper Projects
Prerequisite: Advanced Newspaper & Instructor approval
Grade 12
1 credit

Projects students will be responsible for the organization and assignments of the publication, with instructor approval. They will work within the style guidelines set up by the Augusta Gazette who publishes our newspaper and includes it inside of the local Rose Hill publication. Projects students will plan, assign, edit, design and place the elements for pages of our publication, meet the Gazette's guidelines and raise money through advertising to fund the publication of the high school's paper. The Projects students will, at the same time, write the longer feature stories, opinion and entertainment columns.

Yearbook
Prerequisite: Intro to Modern Tech
Grade 10

The Yearbook course will introduce students to the yearbook production process as the contribute assignments for publication in the RHHS yearbook. The yearbook is a spring delivery publication to the school population. Students will learn about the fundamentals of yearbook reporting and writing, complete coverage, theme development, writing that is factual and accurate, page layout, news and sports photography, headline writing and cutline writing.

Advanced Yearbook will build upon the skills and knowledge learned in Yearbook. Students will edit beginning student's writing, model basic photography skills, have input into beginning student assignments, learn page layout utilizing Adobe In Design CS2 and learn photo preparation for publication utilizing Adobe Photo Shop. Advanced students will learn how to approach, sell, design and display advertising in the school yearbook. Second year students will also gain experience in writing copy, cutlines and headlines for the yearbook.

Prerequisite: Advanced Yearbook
Grade 12

Yearbook Projects students will be responsible for the organization and assignments of the publication with advisor approval. Projects students will work within the guidelines set up by the style book utilized by the publications staff. Students in the class will plan, assign, edit, design and place the elements for pages of the publication, meet the publishing company's deadlines and raise money through advertising and yearbook sales to fund the publication of the RHHS yearbook. At the same time, the Projects students will write opening copy, develop the theme and division pages copy.
