August 2006 PTC Minutes

President Gena Wade welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.

Minutes – Minutes were reviewed. A motion was made by Dana Thompson to approve the minutes from the May meeting as they were presented and a second was made by Barb Nelson. The motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report – Kelli Farber will address the financial report in September as some of the numbers needed to be fixed. The treasurer’s report from July and August will be presented in September.

Budget – Kelli Farber presented the budget for the 2006-2007 school year. Debbie Campbell stated she would only need $400.00 instead of $800.00 for Yum Yum Fridays. A motion was made by Roxanne Walker to accept the proposed budget and it was seconded by Keri Brownell. The motion passed.

Teacher Grants – Gena Wade explained that we talked about raising the annual teacher’s grants from $40.00 to $50.00 at the May meeting. Suzanna Bloir-Pappan made a motion to raise the teacher’s grants from $40.00 to $50.00 and it was seconded by Keri Brownell. The motion passed.

School Store – Keri Brownell asked about a location for the school store. Mr. Collier and Mrs. Sanders will find a spot for it and let her know. Tonya Montague will not be able to do the scheduling this year. If anyone is interested in taking that over or volunteering to work at it, please let Gena or Keri know.

School Packets – Debbie Kill reported that last year we sold 66 packs and this year we sold 106. This being the reason they went over the original budget for back to school supply packs. We still have 3 packs that need to be picked up. The packs made a profit of $550.00 by charging $5.00 over the cost of supplies for each pack. She said they had some very positive feedback and she would like to do it again next year. Some asked about making up extra packets for each grade level for people new to the district or people that forgot to order. We will address that at a later meeting. There were some left over supplies. They will be given to the school councilors and distributed to students that need them. Mr. Collier and Mrs. Sanders will take care of this.

Celebration Books – Gena Wade and Dana Thompson explained how the celebration table works. Anyone can donate $15.00 to get a hardback book and an AR test for it in honor of a birthday, special achievement, etc. The student it was bought for will have their name in the book and be the first one allowed to check it out of the library.
A motion was made by Debbie Kill to give $120.00 to each library (primary, intermediate, and middle school) to buy a book each month in honor of the students that have birthdays in the given month. Debbie Campbell seconded the motion. The motion passed.

She will have more information about this in September.

Skate Nights – Lori Mounts has already scheduled the skate nights for this year. If anyone has any comments or ideas on which nights are better than others or questions she’d appreciate input. She chose Tuesday nights (before late start Wednesdays), Thursdays when school is out on Friday and is thinking about maybe having some on Fridays next year.

Movie Night – Heather Gray was not able to be at the meeting however, through Gena said to think about having an early evening movie on a Tuesday. For every 50 tickets we sell, the Warren Theater will donate 5 tickets we could sell for pure profit. It would still be open to just Rose Hill family and friends. A movie ticket would cost $5.50 and a popcorn/drink/candy combo and ticket would cost $10.00. We will discuss specific movies at a later meeting.

Spirit Wear – Melinda McKnown is in charge of spirit wear again this year but was unable to attend tonight’s meeting. It was decided that it would be best to take orders having an example of each item on the order form. Julie Mann made a motion to a lot Melinda $200.00 to order samples of the shirts that will be ordered. It was seconded by Barb Nelson. Motion passed.

Yum Yum Fridays – Mr. Collier stated a new nutritional/wellness policy sent out by the state may change us being able to have Yum Yum Fridays. He will let Debbie Campbell know as soon as possible so that she can possibly start it up just after Labor Day. It makes over $1000.00 a year per school. Last year we were able to purchase another panel for the rock wall and mats for it out of the Yum Yum money.
