Softball Regional Runner-Up
Softball had a great season this year going 19-5 on the season. Several seniors will be leaving the Rockets, including Kristen Ozbun, Christine Karslake, Aubree Nighswonger, Katie Davis, Nicole Showalter, and Megan Craig. Rose Hill had a tough season going through injuries with several crucial players. Nicole Dunphy (pitcher) and Christine Karslake (catcher) both had injuries to their knees that took them out for several games.
Tough Luck for Baseball
The Rocket guys baseball team had a rough season this year. They got into a slump in the beginning and they just could not get out. The guys batting was pretty good, however, they were having trouble fielding the ball. Although the guys did have a 4-17 season they had some fun wins against Wellington, Clearwater and Circle.
Rockets Finish 3rd In State
The Rockets finished their 20-6 in the Consolation finals for the State tournament bringing home their 3rd place finish. The Rockets longest win streak was 8 wins after beginning with their loss at Wellington and ending at the State Tournament vs. the Scott City Beavers. Graduating Seniors to be leaving the Rockets are Taylor Wilson, Grahm Petersen, and Aaron Clark. Aaron Clark led the team in freethrow percentage, Grahm Petersen led the team in three-point shots and, Taylor Wilson led the team in rebounds. The Rockets will be returning several starters including Trent Ubben, Josh Shirley, and Brayden Crowe.
Lady Rockets 19-3 Season
The Lady Rocket Basketball team had their high hopes cut short with a defeat to the Augusta Orioles in the Sub-State tournament. However, the Rockets had an excellent season prior to the tournament only taking one regular season loss from Augusta and a loss in the Andale tournament to Andale in overtime. Senior Kristen Ozbun and team captain is the only Rocket that is known to not be returning for the team next year. A few of the Rockets achievments included second place at the Andale tournament, First place in the El Dorado tournament, and League Champions.
Team Takes 3rd @ State
The Rockets had an excellent year finishing 4 and 2 for duals and finished very high in several of the tournaments they attended. The team's greatest accomplishment was taking 6 of their wrestlers to the state tournament in Salina. Seniors leaving this year are Jared Siemer who wrestled at the 215 spot and Dustin Schellhamer at 140. Several Juniors will be moving up as Seniors next year including Ryan Canale, Dustin Bowen, Aaron Hynick, and Ben Forsberg. The Rockets also finished 3rd in state this year which is possibly one of the highest finishes for the team ever.
Soccer's 4-A State Runner-Up
The Rocket men's soccer team had an excellent season finishing off the year with possibly the best record in school history. Before their loss in the State Finals the Rockets had only lost one match the whole season. Senior William Peppard now holds the school record for career goals and Senior Chris Brittingham holds the record for assists. Junior goalie Eddie Smith had an excellent year holding opponents out of the goal for the first five games of the season. The Rockets are losing quite a few talented seniors but they are bringing up a number of juniors and sophomores to fill their places. The teams final record stands at 19-2.
Rocket Football Wrapped Up
The Rose Hill Rocket Football team was defeated in a heartbreaking loss in the state playoffs at Chapman. The Rockets had an excellent season with an impressive 9-1 record going into Chapman but things just didn't work out. The Rockets are graduating the core of their line and a group of very talented wide receivers. Quarterback Brayden Crowe, and backs Aaron Hynick, and Josh Haydon will be going into their senior year with some explosive potential. The Rockets defense didn't reach the season goal of holding their oppoentns to less than 13 points a game but they still managed to hold out with several game saving interceptions and fumble recoveries.
Volleyball Comes To An End
The Lady Rockets Volleyball team had an excellent season with many big wins. The Rockets claimed victory at several quads where they swept all of their opponents and they also won several tournaments such as the Campus Tournament and their quad at Buhler. The Rockets longest winning streak of the year was 6 matches. However they had several streaks of 5 matches broken up by a loss here and there. The Rockets finished the season with an impressive 27-9 record, although they did get knocked out of Sub-State in the first round it was a very good effort against a tough team. Good season Rockets.
Rockets Send Terrell To State
The Rocket Cross Country team is sending one of their runners to state this weekend. The impressive freshman Elise Terrell is already close to breaking several school records. However Coach Hilgers thinks it might be hard for the freshman to improve much more because she is in such good condition already. The Rockets did an excellent job at all of the meets they went to and Terrell was finishing in the top pack every time. Graduating seniors for the Rockets are Josh Hernandez and Brice Love.
Stanley Stadium is Complete
Finally the time has come to announce the opening of the new field at Rose Hill's Stanley Stadium. After working through the summer to complete the job, and missing the completion date by the first home game the crews finished up by the next home game on Friday, September 16. The field has been rumored to be one of the finest in the state. Construction on the stadium seating is scheduled to begin at the conclusion of this season. The Soccer team has had many excellent showings on the field already. Football's first game on the field was a loss to Augusta 23-10. Rocket Football's next game will be on Friday, October 7th against Parsons. The 7th is set to be Rose Hill's Fall Homecoming night.
