Baseball Holds Off in the 7th
The Rocket Baseball Team went into the 1st round of Regionals as the 7th seed squaring off against the 2nd seeded Andover Trojans. With a win the Rockets will advance on in the semi-finals, and with a lose they will pack up and head home. With that in mind the Rockets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first two innings. But Andover wasn't going to let their season slip that easily as they narrowed the score 5-3 in the 5th inning. Junior Austin walls would hit a grounder, sending senior Chase Ozbun sliding into home plate for the Rockets 6th run. With the score sitting at 6-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning, all the Rockets had to do was hold the Trojans. Allowing 2 runs in the 7th inning, the Rockets cut it close but held onto the lead, grabbing a 1st round upset over the Trojans 6-5. The Rockets will advance to the Semi-Finals starting at 4:30 on Wednesday.
Softball Survives 1st Round
The Rocket Softball team has had a great season, but due to the strength in the Regional tournament, they were listed as the 4th seed with a 14-6 record. The Ladies would have to play the 5th seeded Mulvane Wildcats, also with a 14-6 record. With their work cut out for them, the Rockets battled with the Cats the entire game. Freshman Keelyn Bonar came up big with a Home Run in the 2nd inning giving the Rockets a simple 1-0 lead. That one point lead would become more and more sacred as the game narrowed to the final inning where the Rockets held off the Wildcats and advanced themselves onto the next round where they will play top seeded Andover Central at Douglass.
Soccer Advances With 2-1 Win
Windy Conditions would make it tough for both teams in the first round of Regional play Monday night as the Rockets hosted Mulvane. The Rockets came into the 18 team tournament as an 8th seed playing the 17th seed. Krista Crook would get the game started as she took a shot off a rebound, giving the Rockets a 1-0 lead unassisted. The Wildcats would tie the game up in the first half, allowing pressure on the Rocket offense to grab a goal in the second half. They handled the pressure as Carissa Hull manuvered her way through the Wildcat defense, finding the back of the net giving the Rockets the 2-1 lead and the Victory over the Cats. The Rockets advance to play Andover Central at 7:00 pm tonight
